True Path Journey

Schengen Visa from Kochi VFS: Step-by-Step Appointment Guide

5 February 2026

Booking a Schengen visa appointment at VFS Global Kochi trips up a surprising number of first-time applicants โ€” not because the process is complicated, but because one early decision determines everything that follows: which countryโ€™s counter you book.

Step 1: Decide which country to apply through

Schengen rules require you to apply at the consulate of your main destination country โ€” wherever youโ€™ll spend the most nights. If your trip is split evenly across countries, you apply through the country youโ€™ll enter first. This isnโ€™t a preference, itโ€™s a rule, and applying at the wrong counter is one of the most common (and entirely avoidable) reasons applications get delayed or refused.

Step 2: Gather your documents before booking

Have these ready before you book your slot, since some centres require documents to be uploaded or verified before an appointment is confirmed:

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years
  • Two Schengen-compliant photographs
  • Completed Schengen visa application form
  • Travel/medical insurance with at least โ‚ฌ30,000 coverage valid across all Schengen states
  • Round-trip flight reservation (a reservation, not a paid ticket, until your visa is approved)
  • Proof of accommodation for every night of your stay
  • 6 months of bank statements
  • Proof of ties to India

Step 3: Book your VFS Kochi slot

Appointments are booked online through the relevant countryโ€™s VFS Global portal for the Kochi centre. Slots can fill up quickly during peak travel seasons (summer and December), so we recommend booking as soon as your documents are ready โ€” ideally 6โ€“8 weeks before travel.

Step 4: What to expect at the appointment

Youโ€™ll submit your documents, and your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) will be taken if this is your first Schengen application in the last 5 years, or if your circumstances require re-enrolment. Bring physical copies of everything, even if youโ€™ve uploaded documents online โ€” VFS staff verify against originals.

Step 5: After the appointment

Standard Schengen processing targets 15 calendar days, though this can extend to 30โ€“45 days in busy periods or more complex cases. Track your application status through the relevant countryโ€™s VFS portal.
