Documents the UK Sponsor (Son/Daughter) Must Provide for a Parent's Visit Visa

22 January 2026

If youโ€™re settled in the UK and inviting a parent to visit, your part of the application matters just as much as theirs โ€” and itโ€™s easy to underestimate, especially when youโ€™re busy with work and life in the UK. Hereโ€™s exactly what to prepare, and why each document matters.

1. The invitation letter

A signed letter explaining who youโ€™re inviting, your relationship, the purpose and dates of the visit, and confirmation that youโ€™ll be hosting them (or explaining accommodation arrangements if not). Keep it factual and specific โ€” vague invitation letters raise more questions than they answer.

2. Proof of your UK status

A copy of your passport bio page along with your current UK visa, Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), or proof of settled/pre-settled status. This confirms you have a legal basis to be in the UK and to host visitors.

3. Proof of your UK address

A recent utility bill, council tax statement, or tenancy agreement showing your current address โ€” this is where UKVI expects your parents to be staying.

4. Financial evidence, if youโ€™re funding the trip

If youโ€™re covering some or all of the costs, include 6 months of your UK bank statements or recent payslips. This isnโ€™t mandatory if your parents are self-funding, but it strengthens the application when a working sponsor is visibly involved.

5. Proof of relationship

A birth certificate (for parents) is the clearest evidence of the relationship. If names have changed or documents are old, a marriage certificate or other supporting ID can help connect the dots.

A simple way to handle this from abroad

Most of our clientsโ€™ UK-based children send these documents over WhatsApp or email once we give them the checklist โ€” thereโ€™s no need for anything notarised or couriered in the vast majority of cases. We review everything together with the applicant in Kerala before it goes into the final application, so nothing is missing or inconsistent.
